Vidyarjan Patrika – November 2021

Happy Diwali!

Vidyarjan means learning and Patrika means magazine. This magazine informs you about the learning resources that you would like to access in current month.

  1. Cyber security is the practice of defending computers, servers, mobile devices, electronic systems, networks, and data from malicious attacks. With an increasing number of malicious attacks, cyber security has gained a lot of importance in recent times. This is a very vast area to study and there are many learning resources available for the same. However, if you are looking for a single comprehensive resource for learning cyber security then you must refer to the Cyber Security Body of Knowledge (CyBOK). The CyBOK project is developing a guide to the body of knowledge by distilling knowledge from major internationally-recognized experts. University of Bristol’s Professor Awais Rashid is leading this project along with other leading cyber security experts – such as Prof Andrew Martin, Prof Steve Schneider and Dr Yulia Cherdantseva. The recent version 1.1 of CyBOK was released in July 2021. It contains 21 top-level Knowledge Areas (KAs) spanning five categories viz. Human, Organizational & Regulatory Aspects, Attacks & Defenses, Systems Security, Software and Platform Security, and Infrastructure Security. Check out more details at https://www.cybok.org.
  2. We all know Silicon Valley as a fount of technology innovation and development fueled by private venture capital and peopled by fabled entrepreneurs. But do we know how it started? If you are curious about the history of Silicon Valley then you will like to watch an 75-minute recording of a lecture given by Steve Blank. Steve is a well-known serial entrepreneur from Silicon Valley. In his lecture recorded in year 2011, Steve Blank presents how the roots of Silicon Valley sprang not from the later development of the silicon semiconductor but instead from the earlier technology duel over the skies of Germany and secret efforts around (and over) the Soviet Union. World War II, the Cold War and one Stanford professor set the stage for the creation and explosive growth of entrepreneurship in Silicon Valley.
